On April 18th, 2008, the Crown Casino facility has doubled its options of winning on the roulette wheels by putting an additional number on their roulette wheel. The officials of the Crown Casino have publicly confirmed that they have put two zeros on their roulette wheel, which also retained the lone zero.
Gaming critics criticized the move, which would channel additional income to the coffers of the casino at the expense of the players. Crown officials defended the modifications made at the wheel, saying that a lot of casinos also has the same roulette system. The change will only be implemented to Crown's $2.50 roulette wheel.
A statement that was released by the company states that this will also allow the compay to continue to offer roulette at a reasonable price for their customers, as it is not cost efficient to offer roulette without the two zeros at a smaller denomination. But the modification does not apply to high-roller gaming areas like the Mahogany Room. A gambling industry expert commented that the new roulette wheel would increase the Crown Casino's house edge from 2.7% to 5.6%, doublung the roulette revenue margin.
Despite the additional numbers, roulette payouts will stay at 35:1. The roulette wheel that has two zeros was common in U.S. casinos. The head of the Victorian Interchurch Gambling Task Force, Mark Zirnsak commented that the modification was a further evidence of why people should steer clear of gaming at Crown Casino.
He added that this is the further evidence that Crown Casino only thinks of increasing their profit taking. The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation will need to give their approval for the change.
