Roulette Games in Sharjah Confiscated by Authorities

On May 2, 2007, roulette related items that are sold in some businesses in Shajah were confiscated by police authorities after breaking the rules regarding the ban of selling gambling materials, according to the municipality.

The Market Control Department at the Sharjah Municipality led the raid, confiscating different types of board games and charging the shop owners with fines for selling the games.

Municipality Officials refused to state the number of shops that have been found selling the illegal roulette boards. The shops were given a last warning, according to Omar Salim Al Sharji, the Director of the Market Control Division. He said that the municipality has taken the necessary measures to prevent the sale of the roulette games in the market.

One of these measures is to conduct random inspections in the market. He also said that the sudden campaign will include merchandise shops that can be in found in shopping malls, as well as warehouses located in the Industrial Area.

The Sharjah Municipality has adopted a number of measures which would make sure that the vendors will not be able to sell in secret.

Those new regulations will also include increasing the capability of the employers, developing marketing strategies and ensuring the quality of goods that they are selling in the market.

Al Sharji said that the main aim of the market regulations is to protect the welfare of the customers and increase their knowledge in identifying counterfeit products.
