On October 10th, 2007, the Presque Isle Downs and Casino first installed virtual blackjack games. Now the casino has decided to offer virtual roulette. Both are types of slot machines but customers should not expect the real thing in Harrisburg anytime in the near future.
Despite the endorsement from state House Majority Leader H. William DeWeese, a Democrat from Greene County, Gov. Ed Rendell from the Democratic Party does not endorse the gambling expansion of slot machines to casino table games.
Chuck Ardo, the spokesperson of the Governor said that with about five of the fourteen casino facilities currently open including Erie, the state should permit all of the casinos to open before even considering gambling expansion.
Presque Isle Downs spokesperson Jennifer See commented that the request from their customers led them to install 4 virtual roulette games which are placed behind the desk of the main entrance of the casino.
The games are like the normal roulette but the difference is that players utilize a touch screen to place their bets and there is no personal interaction between the dealer and the gamblers. The virtual roulette on the gaming expansion spins before it halts on a number.
The spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said that the virtual roulette machines are also similar to other slot machines. The computer randomly generates the result of the game. The minimum wagers are $1 and $5 but the virtual machine accepts $10, $20, $50 and $100.
The virtual roulette games are geared toward the younger set of customers. Some of the customers like 77 year-old Terry Bilardo from Parma, Ohio said that she prefers the live roulette version at Las Vegas and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
83 year-old Tony Vitale from Erie is also a frequent customer of the casino. His wife, 80 year-old Marion Vitale said that she prefers wagering on the horses and she is not that interested in the virtual roulette machine. 58 year-old John Smeltzer of Indiana, Pennsylvania said that he does not understand any of the games like virtual roulette.
